Traditions

When everything around you is changing, traditions can feel like a thing of the past. They don’t seem relevant or of value.

But when you don’t exercise certain traditions, there’s a sense of loss. You feel less connected to others and unsure of the future.

Traditions link our past to the present. It helps remind us who we are and where we’ve come. Generations of tradition reveal what’s most important.

In this episode, you’ll learn the four reasons why having a sense of tradition makes life more meaningful.

Show Highlights Include:

  • How to make life more special through the traditions of Texas A&M. ([1:18])
  • Why homemade macaroni and cheese brings more belonging and comfort to your days. ([3:30])
  • How family stories from the past connect you to a courageous (and more meaningful) future. ([6:33])
  • How to honor and appreciate your ancestor’s traditions (even if you didn’t know them). ([8:08])
  • The ‘Family Biographer’ essentials for giving the present a sense of meaning. ([10:45])

Early

We’ve all heard the saying before – The early bird catches the worm. And while it might seem like arriving a few minutes early doesn’t do much, it is the best chance you have for success.

Being early makes you an instant professional. It shows you value others as much as yourself. You are trustworthy, responsible, and reliable.

When you’re an early bird, there are more hours in the day. You have the time to be one step ahead and always go beyond the agenda.

In this episode, you’ll discover why showing up early gives you the best chance of success in all that you do.

Show Highlights Include:

  • Why becoming the ‘Early Bird’ makes you more productive, respected, and leadership material. ([1:07])
  • How to find more hours in your day and make a real impact through the Carol Dweck mindset. ([4:26])
  • Why setting the clocks a few minutes ahead turns you into a person of good character and excellence. ([7:15])
  • How to become a person of excellence and forward progress through John Wooden’s sock tip. ([13:50])

Relentless

Being relentless is about more than having talent or connections. It’s about stopping at nothing to get what you want.

A person can have all the talent in the world and do nothing with it. When things go wrong, they never move past obstacles and excuses.

If you’re relentless, you’re unstoppable. You inspire others and know that success isn’t about how you think, but what you do. Nothing holds you back and there is no small talk. You make a simple choice every day to go all out.

In this episode, you’ll discover how to become relentless in life and let nothing stop you.

Show Highlights Include:

  • How to achieve the impossible and fulfill your life’s purpose like Napoleon Hill. ([1:45])
  • Why you don’t need talent and passion to get out of your comfort zone and do big things.  ([3:13])
  • Why being a loyal employee gives you more leverage in the workplace today. ([5:30])
  • How to achieve your wildest dreams through the Ray Charles legacy. ([7:35])

Loyalty

Being loyal has a bad rep these days. Between bad relationships and bosses, people are more loyal to themselves. And it has led people into having a “me” mindset instead of a “we” mindset.

But being loyal is still relevant today. It shows you commit to standing with someone (or something), no matter what. Loyalty flourishes trust in your relationships and commands respect.

In this episode, you’ll discover why loyalty makes you a more impactful and influential person today.

Show Highlights Include:

  • Why having ‘San Francisco Giants’ loyalty brings more meaning and purpose into the world today. ([0:42])
  • The death of workplace loyalty (and how to find a secure, authentic job today).  ([3:10])
  • Why being a loyal employee gives you more leverage in the workplace today. ([8:03])
  • How to command the highest degree of respect and make an impact everyday by being loyal. ([9:12])

Think

Do you ever remember someone telling you to “give it some thought” or “think things through?” That’s because critical thinking leads to better decisions.

And if you never make time to think, you’ll always depend on snap judgments and reactions. A cluttered brain makes decisions with more stress and less time.

When you give yourself time to think, you draw connections you’ve never noticed before. Your perspective changes and you feel focused. When you make better decisions, you live a better life.

In this episode, you’ll discover why critical thinking leads to your most joyous life yet.

Show Highlights Include:

  • How to make better decisions, free up your time, and feel less stress with Malcolm Gladwell’s art of thinking. ([1:52])
  • Why you only need 15 minutes to improve concentration and make deliberate action towards your goals.  ([3:44])
  • The five things you need for becoming more efficient with your time. ([7:49])
  • Using the 45/15 Method to consistently expand and improve your thinking. ([9:24])
  • How to get rid of any life limits with Catherine Sanderson’s suitcase story. ([12:54])

Positive

It’s easy to respond with negativity in a negative world. But what if one negative thought leads to a day of bad action? Would you think different?

Some believe it is your attitude that determines your altitude. And choosing to think with positivity only leads to a better day.

If we dwell on the things that are bad, we never make space for the things that are good.

In this episode, you’ll discover the power of positive thinking (and how it helps you avoid a bad day).

Show Highlights Include:

  • Bob the Pessimist’s most powerful advice about prospering in an imperfect world. ([1:23])
  • How to fix your mind with Apostle Paul’s four major ideas. ([3:06])
  • Why you’ll have a more positive day if you wake up in ‘pilot mode.’ ([4:44])
  • The John Maxwell way to avoid blowing things out of proportion and limit your potential. ([7:01])
  • Why the ‘Positive Shift’ adds 7 and a half years to your life, improves conversations, and revitalizes your spirit. ([7:40])

Stand

When everything goes wrong in life, it’s easy to think about throwing in the towel. The obstacles seem too great and it feels like everyone is against you.

But every successful person has ups and downs. The difference is whether you stand (or let it tear you down).

Winning is a process, not a destination. And perseverance is what leads you closer or further from everything you want.

In this episode, you’ll learn how to never give up and always stand in your purpose (no matter what).

Show Highlights Include:

  • Using the Winston Churchill philosophy to work through your goals with confidence. ([1:41])
  • The Eli Jones way to live through your purpose (when the whole world is against you).  ([3:37])
  • How to avoid the temptations of quitting and overcome all obstacles. ([6:21])
  • Why Zig Ziglar’s ‘PC Model’ is your biggest key to success. ([7:16])
  • How to avoid throwing in the towel and hold on to all hope with two words. ([8:13])

Refuge

With everything happening in the world, mental health is on the brink of a disaster. You want to ‘stay informed’ but end up anxious and afraid every time you turn on the TV.

Bad news breaks down the most uplifting spirits. It traumatizes the mind and turns everything else toxic (even if you don’t realize it).

Having a safe space is about more than stepping out of the world for a moment. It makes you happier, feel more at peace, and ready to take on the rest of the day.

In this episode, you’ll learn how to tune out the notifications and news for a soul-enriching safe space.

Show Highlights Include:

  • How to avoid mental pollution from the everyday news cycle and find a safe space for your spirit. ([0:52])
  • The ‘Emergency Room’ perspective on seeking relief (when there is none left in the world). ([4:16])
  • Your Cloud Nine checklist in stepping out of the world for a moment. ([7:17])
  • The soul-fulfilling things you can do to tune out the noise and find peace in the world. ([8:51])
  • The Philippians Way to give your mind a break and be completely at one with yourself. ([11:06])

Friendship

Having friends is a blast. You enjoy the good times and feel loved. You might even think you have a lot of them.

And then life goes southâ€Ķ You might need a helping hand or someone to talk to. Those “friends” are nowhere near. They leave at the drop of a dime and you’ve got no support.

Having true friends is about more than the good times. If you only focus on your friends in the good, you’ll never have people around for the bad.

In this episode, you’ll discover the meaning of true friendship in life (and the people you always want by your side).

Show Highlights Include:

  • How to avoid shallow acquaintances and find genuine friendship that lasts a lifetime. ([0:40])
  • How to tell if you have a “blessing” of a best friend (or someone who’ll leave at the drop of a dime). ([4:12])
  • Why having a ‘Haywood’ friendship gets you through your most difficult times. ([6:30])
  • The perspective of true friendship from a funeral home. ([9:46])
